MAssachusetts GOP Convention at BU Agganis Arena 3-22-14

Just getting there was a trial. I knew better than to drive and pay for parking and I hear the garage was full anyway by the time I arrived at 9 a.m. My press packet was registered through COMFLM (Commonwealth of Massachusetts Free Lance Media) Try saying that 3 times fast.

I first and foremost represent Commonwealth Covenant Keepers ( now say that 3 times fast) an un-structured organization of Judeo-Chritian believers who believe in the founding principles of this great nation which are expressed perfectly well in our Constitution.

There are a lot of issues to take issue with but you have to pick your battles or you will run out of steam before you get to the one you were born to fight.  Jeff Goins says "Write something worth fighting over, because that’s how you change things. That’s how you create art." I like that because I am an artist, not only a writer but a graduate of Mass Art where I majored in painting. I have been so interested in changing things that I have not found the time to paint much but I will post some of my visual artwork later. On to the Convention floor!
Opening with the Presentation of Colors, National Anthem, Pledge of Allegiance but no opening prayer ?
Plenty of room for the 1,000 no show delegates; about 2500 did spend the day doing their civic duty.
Nobody wanted to sit behind the media platform, and they didn't have to...plenty of room!
Honor Guard with fife and drum was a nice touch. Always love the reminder of our patriotic past.

there are a lot of  officials introducing other officials. House Minority Leader Rep. Brad Jones Convention co-chairman speaks about optimism  and shared goals of campaign trail. All mismanagement must end, 3 tax increases is unacceptable.
Sherrif Frank Cousins introduces Sen. Bruce Tarr ... the response grows.  We have only 3 Republicans on Senate floor: Bob Hedland, Richard Ross &  Don Hemerson. We can fix the mess.
We can fix it! We passed Melissa’a Law…Mantra emerges WE CAN FIX IT!
So here’s the message when we hear of a DCF that loses children what do we say? WCFI!  Indexing the gas Mike Sullivan  tax to inflation. WCFI
Health Ins choice taken away Eliminating options. God Bless the Commonwealth of Mass and The USA
Repeal the Gas Tax : Rep Geoff Diel headed up a signature drive which was a great accomplishment. Especially by those who collected all the signatures.
National Party Chairwoman, Chanel Prunier (my former boss) addresses the crowd. The next generation rises trained by my generation. Prunier: We've overcome obstacles, false misconceptions, grown foundation through persistence and determination, working together…activism over the past decade has grown the size of our caucus. She sees rising stars like Ryan Fattman ,Vinnie De Macedo, Monica Medieros (my former co-worker) & 2 others running in special elections April 1st. They deserve our support. Get out the vote!

Abe Lincoln actually showed up to remind us of the GOP core principles before a break in the program.

Republicans look upon slavery as a wrong, prevent the spread. Dems had numbers, controversy was a question of principle. In each state … state platform would distract from the whole... a national issue every locality has to look beyond our noses. Resistance to a common danger fought through hot fire of our brave enemy now wavering and severed..A house divided against itself cannot Stand …Fritz Kline delivered words spoken by Lincoln.

Working the crowd during the break is dynamo, Rep Shauna O'Connell 3rd Bristol..(My great Grandmother was an O'Connell but she did not look anything like Shauna.) I was able to ask her a few questions about what matters most to her. She wants to see families served and the economy improved. Working hard for transparency in Public assistance programs. MBTA Pension system. She has filed amendments 3 times for disclosure to stop abuse and mismanagement. MA got an F in Transparency from the Sunshine Foundation.

In search of coffee which was not easy to find, lines were long. In the smoke-filled corridors ( burnt Pizza) I saw the heir apparent...."activist, leader, Charlie Baker...the next Governor... we work for families small business owners, poor stuck in cycle of poverty because of Democrat policies... stakes couldn’t be higher."
